Governors

Governor Meetings:

The full governing body meets six times a year. There are two committees that support the work of the governing body and they also meet six times a year: Standards Committee and Resources Committee.

All governors are required to sit on at least one committee. In addition governors are encouraged to attend workshops, seminars and training sessions run by the West Gloucestershire Support Partnership and Local Authority.

The Chair of Academy Trust and the Clerk to Academy Trust can be contacted via the school address or email to:

chair@severnbanks.gloucs.sch.uk

clerk1@severnbanks.gloucs.sch.uk

The Governors endeavour to ensure the present and future welfare of our school. To this end they attend regular training events to keep abreast of all new initiatives and requirements. All governors make visits during the school day, and those who have time available take on a more active role in school activities.

When I was a young girl, my family used to live in Woolaston. My hobbies include, baking, flower arranging and WI. I am also a secret cleaning enthusiast. • Mrs Carol Morgan

    Chief Financial Director/Company Secretary

My name is Carol Morgan, I have been working at Severnbanks school for over 30 years, started in September 1989 as a finance assistant part-time and I have been the full time School Business Manager since 2014, I am also the Finance Director for the academy trust and company secretary.
I have been on the governing body since July 2010 elected as the support staff governor. I report to the governors on all financial, premises H&S and compliance matters. I became a governor as I am passionate about children’s education, ensuring that pupils and the wider community gets the best experience from Severnbanks school, to make certain they have skills for life beyond the classroom, also encourage them to celebrate their own personal successes. Both my daughters attended the school, as well as nieces and nephews and now my granddaughter, and great nieces and nephews attend.
I enjoy travelling especially to historic places, where I appreciate their culture, food and history. I am a thrill seeker and enjoy being in the outdoors, I like to push my boundaries and try something new. I’ve flown in a helicopter, enjoyed a hot air balloon ride and been on the roller coaster with the most turns upside down. My latest adventure was riding on the fastest zip line in the world which is also the longest one in Europe. I belong to the Ross motor sports club and take part in events mainly as a navigator in Targa rallies and driving on night navigational exercises. I enjoy walking in the countryside and recently started a photography course, as I love taking scenic photographs and would like to be able to understand more, and how to recognise good angles and take different, unusual shots.

  • Mr Scott Bowen

My name is Scott Bowen. I am a Governor and member of the Resources Committee. I am lead governor for Art, DT and Humanities.
I am married to one of the teachers at Severnbanks which is how I became aware of the school. My wife joined the school through the teach first scheme and quickly became enamoured by the efforts made by the staff to do the best they can by all the children at the school. As a father myself, I hope the teachers at my own children's school are as committed as those at Severnbanks.
I am a director at a Solicitors firm in Newport, South Wales. I am a solicitor advocate undertaking criminal law defence work.
When not in Court, I enjoy spending time with my family. If I can't get to a beach in the sunshine, I will make do with a golf course.

  • Mr Edward Jones

Work: Senior Employee Relations Consultant at Allianz Insurance plc
Governance experience: I have no previous experience of governance in schools, but have recently been seconded as a Governance and Standards Lead within the HR function at Allianz UK.
Hobbies and interests: I love playing most sports (particularly football!) but haven't been able to do that recently! I also really enjoy walking and gardening and generally being out in the fresh air (which I have been able to do lots of recently!).
Link to school: My wife Laura is a member of the brilliant teaching staff at Severnbanks.
Why did I become a governor? I really want to support the school's leaders in ensuring the school maintains the high standards of education it provides for all pupils across the curriculum.
