Communication and Interaction at Severnbanks Primary School

At Severnbanks, we recognise that communication and interaction needs can affect how children express themselves, understand others, and build relationships. These needs may be linked to a range of conditions, including Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

🌟 Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)

Children with ASC may experience challenges such as:

  • Difficulty understanding and using verbal and non-verbal communication

  • Struggling to interpret social behaviours and expectations, which can affect interactions with peers and adults

  • A strong reliance on structure and routine to feel secure and confident

Every child with ASC is unique, and we aim to provide tailored support that meets their individual needs and helps them thrive socially and academically.

🗣️ Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

Children with SLCN may face a wide range of difficulties, including:

  • Producing clear speech sounds

  • Finding the right words or forming meaningful sentences

  • Expressing thoughts and ideas clearly through spoken language

  • Understanding and responding to verbal instructions or cues

  • Using language appropriately in different social situations

These challenges can impact learning, confidence, and social development. At Severnbanks, we work closely with families and external professionals to identify needs early and provide targeted support to help children communicate effectively and feel understood.
