Charity Work and Community
As The Severn Federation of Schools, we are advocates for the common good, locally, nationally and globally. We recognise that life is full of ups and downs and that at times all people will face challenges that they need help and support in overcoming. We support a range of charities in our local area, nationally and globally. The school council work with staff, leadership, PTFA and St. Mary's Church to identify worthy causes to support.
Our schools stand up for what they believe. They have met with Town Councillors to raise issues of significance to the school community, including the safety of our pupils.
Our curriculum vision and values ensure that opportunities to discuss the big issues, to challenge injustice and to engage in activities that can bring about change are always present.
In recent years we have carried out a range of different fund raising to support many good causes, some of which include:
- Lydney Food bank and Local Charities which support the homeless - annually supported through our Harvest Festival celebrations.
- NSPCC
- Comic Relief
- Children in Need
- Macmillan
- The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
- Young Minds Matter – Hello Yellow
- Place 2 Be (Children's Mental Health Charity)
- Cots for Tots
- Scoo-B- Doo Charity
At Severnbanks, our children play an active role in choosing the charities we support, both locally and nationally. Through discussions in School Council, as well as class votes and community input, pupils help to identify causes that matter to them and reflect our school values of kindness, belonging, and making a positive difference. This collaborative approach not only empowers our children to have a voice in school life, but also helps them understand the importance of giving back and supporting those in need within our community and beyond.
